You want to be the No. 1 among the back kneaders? Grab your favorite massage bar and a test object, because we’ll show you how to do it.
Nicola Wright, senior therapist at Lush Spa, gives you five tips to get you started. The rest is up to you …
For a massage to be really relaxing, it depends on the right environment. Make sure that the room is warm, cozy and free of things that distract you. Turn off smartphones, laptops and other devices. Focus fully on your massage partner.
Light a few candles and cast the right mood.
Grab your massage partner’s favorite massage bar and heat it between your hands until covered with oil. Then slide the massage bar over your shoulders and gently knead your upper back. This technique is called Effleurage, it ensures that the skin and muscles are warmed up effectively.
Take your time and walk slowly to shoulders and neck. Use both hands and slide them over the back and around the shoulder blades to create heat and bring everything into a stream.
Move your hands over the lower back in the shape of an eight to release tension and provide fresh blood to the muscles. If your partner has lower back problems, such as sciatica, you can put a folded towel under his belly. So you take pressure off your back.
Now walk over the neck to the head and use your fingers. Imagine that you would wash your partner’s hair with shampoo and imitate these movements. This feels great especially if your partner had previously tied his hair tight. Discourage worries and help someone shut down and relax properly.
If this little taste is not enough, then visit both on your next trip to England one of our Lush Spas and book a double treatment.
