The best budget office notebook 2019 for less than 500 euros is the Lenovo IdeaPad 320S. It combines high mobility with decent performance and great workmanship. In view of the fair price, the few disadvantages of the 14-inch model are easily bearable.
Of course, a cheap office notebook does not have to accommodate the latest technology or be visually up-to-date. But it should do exactly what it is needed for: Office applications. So word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and everything else you need in the office.
We looked at six models up to 500 euros. Each device has its advantages and disadvantages, but who does not want to spend much, must always make compromises.
Short overview: Our recommendations
1 Lenovo IdeaPad 320S
The Lenovo IdeaPad 320S was the best office notebook for us up to 500 Euros already at the last update. It provides enough power for everyday office life and is also high quality and stable. The design can also be seen against business partners, making the Lenovo notebook suitable for every use.
However, we now recommend a better equipment variant, with the earlier criticisms were eliminated. Thus, the IdeaPad 320S is still suitable as a constant companion for traveling due to its compact size and low weight. In addition, battery life and connectivity agree. The integrated SSD provides lightning-fast access to your own files and programs, but the storage space is slightly lower. Also, the display has improved and now offers a higher resolution and better viewing angles. In terms of low price, the performance is excellent and who needs more space, can rely on memory cards or external hard drives.
2. Asus VivoBook E12
If you like it even smaller and more mobile, you can take a closer look at Asus’ VivoBook E12. The small laptop is just 30 cm wide and offers enough power for simple typing and surfing the Internet. The mini-notebook is fast thanks to fast WLAN and the battery allows an operating time of up to eight hours. Since the VivoBook does not require a fan, it is silent in operation and can therefore be used in very sensitive environments.
However, the memory is very tight and makes the use of a memory card almost inevitable. In addition, the screen is a bit dark and for more than the above, the VivoBook E12 is really not suitable. For the price is 250 euros almost unbeatable low and for Internet, word processor and solitaire is enough power available.
3. Acer Aspire 3
Acer’s Aspire 3 offers a slightly larger display than our favorite and has plenty of storage space with its combination of fast SSD and large, conventional hard drive. The performance is good and is enough for a bit more demanding office work. Should it ever be necessary, the Aspire 3 can also be easily upgraded and also the battery life is neat for such a large device.
The offered connections are a bit outdated, slots for a monitor and several USB devices are available. In addition, the keyboard is more suitable for little fingers, since the keys are a bit small.
Good performance even with cheap notebooks
The search for a classic office notebook at a fair price is difficult: in the price range up to 500 Euro hundreds of models of various configurations – but which are really worth what?
Even with a budget notebook, important issues such as workmanship, everyday performance and mobility should reach a level that does not torment daily use. Because even those who use their laptop “only” for the writing of e-mails, Word documents and surfing the Internet, may make demands on the device.
Fortunately, the days are over when you had to make with low-priced notebooks strong cuts in processing or performance. Our favorite not only works fast, it also fits in a slim and sturdy case and is equipped for mobile use. The same applies to our alternative recommendations. With the right combination of state-of-the-art processors and useful components, today’s notebooks allow you to work pleasantly for a small price.
That must be an office notebook
For classic office notebooks in the price segment under 500 euros you should not expect luxury performance, of course. You have to get over the fact that the device sweats when editing complex Photoshop files or surrenders before playing games. Even on crisp displays or on extras like a touchscreen you have to do without in the entry-level class.
What is more important is that the base is right. So we attach importance to a decent pace of work in the productive Windows everyday life: Word, Excel and Co. as well as surfing the Internet have to work smoothly. We also want good workmanship, a decent keyboard and a display that ideally can be used outdoors as well.
